1 Corinthians Week 52

This morning, we jumped back into 1 Corinthians 6 and the issues that were causing the church at Corinth to lose its focus on reaching the world with the gospel, and spend all its spiritual energy dealing with infighting and ridiculous lawsuits.  In verses 4 & 5 Paul gives instruction on how to choose an arbitrator — it is not supposed to be a popularity contest.

The New Testament gives us so many scriptures that instruct us on how to gain wisdom and be someone who can be depended on to judge righteous judgement when called upon to arbitrate a disagreement between church members.  The scriptures on the board guide us into understanding what is available to all of us — the character traits of a mature life in Christ.  Colossians is a great book of church doctrine and teaching on Christian maturity.  The following verses give clear teaching on seeking to obtain the wisdom of Christ and use it in your daily interaction with the world.

Colossians 3:16 & 4:5-6  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.  Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.  Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

It is all about being conformed to Christ and using the filter of Philippians 4:8 to think the best in everyone — whatever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praise worthy about your brothers and sisters in Christ.
