Yesterday was a lot of fun going through the brief overview of Matthew, one of the most difficult books in the Bible. The gospels make the transition from Old Testament to New Testament, and Matthew, being the first book of the New Testament, is vital to understanding the transition. It is truly one of the most quoted, yet misapplied books. Keeping things in proper doctrinal perspective will prevent you from allowing false teaching to persuade you. The three main divisions of Matthew, as seen on the board, really help us in our understanding of the book! Next week, we will look at the book of Acts, which transitions God’s focus from Israel and the Jews, to the Gentile world. This is played out in the lives of Peter, the chief apostle to the Jews, and Paul, the only apostle to the Gentiles.
