1 Corinthians Week 107

We have finally closed out our study in chapter 11!  The last two Sundays gave us a clear understanding of the importance of the Lord’s Supper.  It is the only ordinance that we are commanded to participate in to keep our fellowship pure with the Lord.  We are to make sure that we do not take it “unworthily” because there is an extreme warning given in verses 27-31 — Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

The ordinance of the Lord’s Supper is a serious issue with God!  We must make sure that we are not allowing sin to continually dwell in our lives, by examining our lives and judging within ourselves, confessing our sins (1 John 1:9) and walking in the Spirit. Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Let us take our responsibility concerning the Lord’s Supper seriously, in obedience to our Lord’s command.
