We are learning so much about our spiritual journey through the wilderness of our lives in 1 Corinthians 10, by examining the nation of Israel, and her journey from the Red Sea to the Jordan River. We see so many spiritual pictures of rebellion, covetousness, and idolatry that remind us that our personal spiritual struggles are very similar.
James 1:13-15 teaches us that the LSD of a destructive life is common to everyone. …when Lust hath conceived it bringeth forth Sin, and sin, when it is finshed, bringeth for the Death.
We also realize, in this Dispensation of Grace, that our Standing before God is based on the finished work of Christ on Calvary. Our State is how we succeed or fail in our daily pursuit of being conformed to Christ, and having victory over the lust of the lust of the eyes and flesh, and the pride of life.
We discussed the seemingly contradiction in scripture concerning Numbers 25:1-11, and 1 Corinthians 10:8.
Numbers 24:9: And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
1 Corinthians 10:8: Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
I was so excited when Casey Griffin and Patrick Melton both caught the key phrase that opened up the understanding behind this apparent contradiction — “in one day.” Moses stated there was 24,000 total who died in the plague. Paul stated that 23,000 fell in one day. So, the honest Bible student will understand that there was 24,000 total who died, but 23,000 of them died in one day. A skeptic will not see the simplicity of scripture. Thank you, men, for catching the phrase I was hoping you would see!
We will continue in V.9 next Sunday.
