1 Corinthians Week 94

Our study of 1 Corinthians 10:14 was quite a lesson in keeping ourselves free from idolatry in this age of idolizing everything from sports stars, to movie stars, to automobiles, to possessions of any kind!  Jesus, Paul, and John warn us of the dangers of allowing idols to occupy our hearts.

Matthew 6:24;  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
1 Corinthians 10:14:  Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
1 John 5:21: Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Let us all keep our guard up and spiritual armor on to protect us from falling into the temptation of idolatry!  Our brief look into Romans 1:18-32 was quite telling!

We identified 3 Reasons for God’s Judgment on Pagan Man:

1. For suppressing God’s truth.  V.18
2. For ignoring God’s revelation.  V.19-20
3. For perverting god’s glory.  V.21-23

We also saw the results of God’s judgment.  He Gives Our Pagan Culture over to:

1. Uncleanness – V.24
2. Vile affections – V.26
3. A reprobate mind – V.28

We do live in perilous times, as we saw in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 & 4:1-5.  The righteousness and holiness that is found in Christ is under all out attack in this present evil world.

Isaiah 5:20: Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
We will finish 1 Corinthians 10 this coming Sunday.  I am so grateful to be part of group of people who love God’s Word, and desire to know the scriptures!  Thank you for putting up with me and my simple approach to God’s Word, letting it define itself, and being its own commentary.
