As we are coming to the close of the Olivet Discourse, it is imperative that we look into the Word of God to understand why Jesus and Peter used the time of Noah as an example to identify when the 2nd Advent is going to occur. Matthew 24:36-44, Mark 13:32-37, Luke 17:22-37, Luke 21:34-36, 2 Peter 2:1-11 all give us information concerning the events that will occur in last 3 ½ years of Daniel's 70th week, known as the great tribulation.
Today we were introduced to several branches of angelic beings and offices as described in scripture. The holy angelic offices and the unholy offices are very similar because Satan has no original thought, and the angels that followed him had already been part of God's celestial kingdom.
Original and current celestial kingdom created by the LORD: Colossians 1:16-17: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Satan's counterfeit kingdom operating on earth: Ephesians 6:12: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The different branches of the kingdom are similar to the branches of our government. We have local, state, and federal branches that all have specific authority. We have different branches of the military – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force. All of which have similar responsibilities, yet different orders.
The angelic branches are:
Thrones Dominions Principalities Powers
The Bible names several groups of Angels: Cherubim, Seraphim, Archangels, Morning Stars, Sons of God, etc. Job 38:7 describes two branches of angels celebrating at creation. Job 1:6 and Job 2:1 describes one branch, the sons of God, appearing with their leader, Satan, after the attempted overthrow of God's throne described in Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:11-17. He drew 1/3 of the angels of heaven with him when he fell from heaven.
Luke 10:17-18: And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Revelation 12:3-4: And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
There will be a war in the heavens, as described in Revelation 12:7-9, which will cast Satan and his army of fallen angels to the earth in the last days of the tribulation. They are the stars that fall to the earth!
Revelation 6:13: And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
The term sons of God is used 5 times in the Old Testament, always referring to angelic beings – once at creation before they rebelled and four times after the rebellion: Job 38:7, Genesis 6:1-4, Job 1:6, Job 2:1
The term sons of God is used 6 times in the New Testament, always referring to those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. We who are “in Christ” have replaced the sons of God who were created to glorify God, but rebelled. John 1:12, Romans 8:14, Romans 8:19, Philippians 2:15, 1 John 3:1-2
Now that we have some foundation laid concerning the days of Noah, we will unpack the scenario of the days leading up to and including the 2nd Advent, when Messiah King Jesus returns to save His people, the Jews, from annihilation as stated in Romans 11:25-27.
