Titus Chapter Two is full of practical teaching concerning the responsibility of the church membership to participate in the maturing of the next generation of leaders. Sound doctrine is the premise from which we are to operate.
V.1-2: Aged or spiritually mature men are to show forth the character traits that reflect proper lifestyle in Christ, and encourage the church family to follow their pattern / example growing into spiritual maturity. Everything rises and falls on the leadership of good men.
V.3-5: Aged or spiritually mature women mentor the young / spiritually immature women to be the wife and mother that glorifies the Lord through obedience to the Word of God.
V.6-8: The young / spiritually immature men are to be sober minded, exhibiting a pattern of good works, grounded in sound doctrine. The aged men must guide them into a lifestyle of sound speech and sound actions.
A healthy church family will have this kind of interaction between the generations. The saddest state a church can be in is to have on transfer of sound doctrine to build the next group of leaders. Zeal without knowledge is just as dangerous as knowledge without zeal.
Ephesians 4:1-7: I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism,One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
My dear friends, let us all walk worthy of the Lord Jesus Christ, and faithfully access his grace each day, as we seek to be conformed to his image!
Romans 8:28-30: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
