We did our best to get through some of the questions and confusing scriptures today. The biggest one, based on biblical evidence, is the unpardonable sin cannot be committed in the dispensation of grace. The reason is found in Romans 5:20-21, 1 Timothy 1:12-13, and Colossians 2:13-17. All trespasses are forgivable during this mystery period. Rejecting Christ and dying in your sins is unforgivable in itself.
The kingdom period is another story. When Jesus spoke of the unpardonable sin to the religious leaders in Matthew 12:24-33 and Mark 3:20-30, he made it clear that all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven, except blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, which, according to the context is attributing the miracles of Christ to the devil. Hebrews 6:1-6, Hebrews 10:26-29, and 1 John 5:16-19 are Jewish epistles, and doctrinally have a tribulational theme, even though there are wonderful universal truths that speak to us today.
It is our responsibility to rightly divide the word of truth, and make application where it is clear, and avoid applying truths that are not our truths. Hebrews was written to Jews as well as John’s epistles. The simple answer to what was written in Hebrews and 1 John is the unforgivable sin of taking the mark of the beast in the tribulation. Paul broaches the subject in 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12 concerning the spiritual atmosphere in the great tribulation.
2 Thessalonians 2:8-12:And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
As you can see, the condition of the world is going to be one of the signs and lying wonders of the Wicked One / the Antichrist, who will dupe the nations into believing he is God. They will take the mark of the Beast (Revelation 13:16-18), which will condemn them. They rejected the love of the truth that would have saved them. This is what is going to happen after we have been caught up in the air at the rapture.
Even though the unpardonable sin cannot be committed in this dispensation, we who are saved are to be very careful to keep our fellowship with the Holy Spirit healthy.
We are indwelled by the Holy Spirit from salvation until death – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Philippians 1:6
We are commanded not to grieve the Holy Spirit – Ephesians 4:30
We are commanded not to quench the Holy Spirit – 1 Thessalonians 5:19
If we allow sin to continually have power over us, and we do not heed the Holy Spirit’s call to draw back into fellowship with him, we will grieve him, and if it goes on, it could result in loss of fellowship where we become callused and unmoved by the teaching of the word or the reading of the word. Being cold and indifferent to spiritual matters is the result!
Remember how to identify heresy – Heresy is telling the truth, but putting it in the wrong place dispensationally. Let us be diligent in our study of the word of truth by rightly dividing it!
Remember, the prophetic program concerning Israel is in “timeout” during this dispensation of the grace of God, aka the mystery program. The prophetic program will resume when the mystery period closes at the rapture of the Church Age saints.
