Is God a bigamist? Today is our second installment dealing with marriage and divorce, and how God's marriage to Israel was fraught with spiritual adultery on many occasions. As we read in Jeremiah 3:6-20, He pleaded with Israel to repent and return to him, but she refused.
Jeremiah 3:8: And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
Even though God is currently divorced from Israel, He promises that she will be restored in the future kingdom. Jeremiah 3:14-19 prophesy that she will return to fellowship with her husband “in those days” which is a 2nd Advent term. We all know that the scales will fall from her eyes when she sees the abomination of desolation, and flees into the wilderness midway through the tribulation.
We will examine Hosea 2:18-3:5, Matthew 24:13-21, and Romans 11:7-12, 25-27 this coming Sunday. We will see scriptural proof that God will restore his rebellious, adulterous wife to eternal fellowship with Him. This will lead us into our study of Christ and His relationship to the body of Christ, the Church Age saints. We have some exciting ground to cover, as we allow the Word of God to speak plain truth to us!
